Citizens' assembly

Dear resident of Haarlem, 

In 2024, the municipality of Haarlem will be talking to as many Haarlem residents as possible about the topic of parking. We will have neighbourhood meetings, an online questionnaire and a citizens’ assembly. The aim is to make new parking plans for the city.

Citizens’ assembly on parking

The citizens’ assembly on parking will commence in September. The citizens’ assembly will come up with solutions and give advice to the municipality. The municipality believes it is important that as many different people as possible join the assembly; both young and old, from a variety of neighbourhoods, and from different backgrounds. It does not matter how much you know about the topic.

Join the citizens’ assembly on parking

We cordially invite you to participate in this citizens’ assembly. You are part of a randomly selected group of Haarlem residents we are inviting. There will be five meetings. It is important that you attend all of them. As a token of thanks, you will receive a VVV voucher worth 50 euros for each meeting that you attend. As a group, you will offer advice to the question:

Which solutions and measures contribute to alleviating parking pressure, and which will create space: to keep the city and our streets liveable, while we also work on creating a safe, accessible and climate-proof Haarlem?

You can sign up until 30 June. We will draw a group of no more than 130 residents of Haarlem for the citizens’ assembly from all the applications. You will receive an email in the week of 8 July informing you whether you have been selected. You will also receive a confirmation by letter. If you have been chosen, you can then participate in the citizens’ assembly. If you require facilities to participate, such as an interpreter or childcare, please let us know when you sign up.

When will the citizens’ assembly take place?

The five meetings of the citizens’ assembly will be held in September and October on Wednesday evening or on Saturdays and we will serve food and drinks:

• Wednesday 11 September: 18:15 - 21:30, doors open from 17:30
• Wednesday 18 September: 18:15 - 21:30, doors open from 17:30
• Saturday 28 September: 10:00 - 15:30, doors open from 9:30
• Sunday 12 October: 10:00 - 15:30, doors open from 9:30
• Wednesday 23 October: 18:15 - 21:30, doors open from 17:30

The meetings will be held in the city centre of Haarlem and will be accessible to everyone.
